Fažana has its own free tour: from heritage to olive groves

Finally, the village of Fažana, Fasana in Italian, has added a free guided tour of the town to its range of summer activities for visitors.

Yes, in 2026 Fažana has officially joined the list of Istrian towns and villages offering free guided tours to guests who want to discover the history, traditions, curiosities and flavours of this small but ancient fishing village on the Istrian coast.

The free tour will be available in four languages: Italian, English, Croatian and German. It will take place every Wednesday at 7:30 PM. The meeting point is in front of the Fažana Tourist Office, in the centre of the village. The event is scheduled from Wednesday, July 1st, until the last Wednesday of August.

The tour will be led by myself and two other colleagues, all licensed tour guides for the Istrian region.

This year I have the pleasure of doing the tour in English.

But what can you expect from the tour?
Well, I don't want to reveal too much, but I can tell you that we will take a walk through Fažana and discover some of the special features of my town... yes, I admit it, I live in Fažana, so I may be a little biased when it comes to promoting this event, but I can assure you that it is worth joining.

We will visit some of the town's most important buildings, its small churches and its charming little squares. We will then discover a place where one of Fažana's symbols, the sardine (or, as we call it here, "sardela"), becomes art.

We will also have the opportunity to shake the hand, or rather the fist, of one of the most... "impressive" characters of Fažana.

In addition to the visit of the village, we will discover the brand-new thematic park dedicated to one of Fažana's treasures: olive trees. The park has been named "Fažana's Olive Grove".

Yes, in Fažana they care so much about this ancient tree that they dedicated an entire thematic park to it. Inside the park, you will be able to see several olive cultivars typical of the area, plus two specials: two truly unique cultivars. We could call them real newcomers in the "hall of fame" of olive varieties: Oceana and Vasiana.

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to taste the single-variety oil produced from these two cultivars, but who knows... perhaps one day we will be able to enjoy a bruschetta dressed with extra virgin olive oil from Oceana.

In the "Fažana's Olive Grove" park, children will also have the chance to have fun while learning something about olive trees thanks to the "Interactive Kiosk", an information terminal that uses interactive games to entertain younger visitors while introducing them to the world of olive growing.

But children will not be the only ones who will find something interesting to do inside the park. Adults will also have the opportunity to see and touch replicas of ancient tools used for olive oil production, learn more and discover interesting facts about the production of olive oil thanks to numerous information panels placed throughout the park.

Olive varieties, harvesting methods and milling techniques will no longer be a mystery, and they will help you appreciate extra virgin olive oil with greater awareness.

But after all these olive trees and all this information, could we possibly miss the chance to taste the green gold of Istria? The true star: extra virgin olive oil?

Of course not! The tour will end with a tasting of extra virgin olive oil produced by local producers from Fažana.
